Terry Lynn Challis

My husband and I have owned property in San Carlos since 1984. I knew then what a special place this was– it just had yet to be discovered. I came to the sale of real estate from the other side, as an investor, always feeling that owning real estate was better than money in the bank. I worked as a paralegal for a civil law firm with my husband in Arizona, where we did a lot of real estate work, preparing deeds, contracts and the like. We took a sabbatical when we moved our practice from Flagstaff to Sedona, traveling Mexico by recreational vehicle. We learned our Spanish in a true immersion course, staying whenever possible with the Mexican people from one end of this beautiful country to the other. In all those travels, as well as a few excursions to Costa Rica, Fiji and the Bahamas, in our search for our perfect retirement place, we decided none was better than San Carlos. Its scenic beauty is hard to match and it offers a mix of Arizona and Mexico that suits us; and we can drive to the border in an easy half day if we feel the need.

I enjoy involvement in a number of activities, including membership in the Performing Arts Council of San Carlos, a group which brings high quality concerts to the area every season, featuring talent from the U.S. and Mexico. I am also a member of “Las Madrinas”, a group which helps a local orphanage/ boarding school which also offers a free preschool program. It was through this program that I learned of the desire of these children to learn English, they were losing their volunteer teacher, Sra. Kaye, so approximately 6 years ago, I organized a group of North Americans to go once a week to teach English. We are always looking for “teacher’s aids” for this program so let me know if you have an interest in joining our group.

I’m also active in the local bridge group, a member of the local gym, I enjoy water sports, hiking, singing and dancing and acting (or at least hamming it up) in the local melodrama which benefits Rescate, our ambulance service and emergency clinic in San Carlos. (The photo I supplied was from the Melodrama-2006.)

My nickname around here is “Teresita”, which was my radio name when we had a boat. My husband and I still have a base station VHF radio which we monitor, and I try to keep the cruisers and live-aboards apprised of what’s going on in the community so they can join in.

If you have any questions about living in San Carlos or buying property here, please feel free to e-mail me at terryc1@remax.net.

The people I have met in San Carlos are just one of the reasons I moved here! Never mind the fantastic views, of the mountains, islands, the sea, and the romance of “Mediterranean” style homes. When my husband and I stepped off the plane from Durango Colorado for a three day vacation, my first thought was that if I wanted a perfect home by the sea it would look just like San Carlos! My husband took a little longer; he had to go fishing first, the very next day he was hooked too! I can not believe that was in 2000. We went home and sold our business in Durango, and within a short time headed to San Carlos to live full time.

I would like to introduce myself, I am Lise MacNinch. When we first arrived, my husband and I needed help in finding out all of the ins and outs of living in Mexico. Our fantastic “new” friends that we met here in San Carlos helped us with the thousand questions that came up, and introduced us to some of the activities and organizations which abound here. I became involved in the Rescate Auxiliary, which raises money for the support of the free community Ambulance Service and Clinic here in San Carlos, by working on the bi-annual telephone book, as a liaison to businesses. After a while I was helping other people looking to make San Carlos their home or vacation destination.

I was flattered to be invited to be the first agent hired at RE/MAX First Choice Realty. I have found my background, as an Interior Decorator and an entrepreneur, with close to 30 years in Sales, to be invaluable in helping my clients find the right situation for them. I am a current member of A.M.P.I. the Association of Mexican Real Estate Professionals, seeking to bring standards and training to Sonora and am a licensed Real Estate Agent in Sonora, Mexico. To me, San Carlos is an active and welcoming community, which just happens to have all the amenities of a great vacation destination! Should you want to know more about San Carlos you can contact me at lisemacninch@remax.net. Or you can call me toll free at 1-800-587-2830. Yes, it rings in our office here in San Carlos!

Georgina Bedran

My work as a real estate agent began coincidentally but it has become one of the most important things in my life. I like to do it; I like to be involved in one of the most important decisions someone can make: to buy a real property.

I started my career in real estate by working for a large development company of tourist destinations in Mexico and Central America called Situr. This experience permitted me to be involved in the world of real estate sales, mostly to foreigners. I know the sales and legal process in Mexico very well. Although my native language is Spanish, I perform well in English and I always to do my best to have satisfied clients. I am a current member of A.M.P.I. the Association of Mexican Real Estate Professionals and am a licensed Real Estate Agent in Sonora, Mexico.

I was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. I am an adopted Sonoran for the last 30 years, a lover of this land and its people. My children and my husband are Sonorans by birth. I am a good friend, I like to do what I am and to be what I do.

Phil Polk

My name is Phil Polk. I came to San Carlos as a single man some 15 years ago but it didn’t take long to end 34 years of bachelorhood. I met and married my wife here in Guaymas 13 years ago. We have three children who keep both of us hopping with their school, sports and social activities. We feel that the Guaymas / San Carlos area is a great place to raise a family. I have come to know many people who have visited San Carlos and most are in agreement that this is a beautiful part of Mexico and the people are what make this place feel so welcome.

I am proud to be a part of this community and the ReMax family. I feel that with my knowledge of the area and the local customs I can offer my assistance and some free advise to those who are visiting or planning on making San Carlos their second home. A big smile and warm abrazo (hug) can go a long way!

Sheila Olson

I am Canadian and have lived in Québec, Manitoba, Alberta and now in Ontario. Seven years ago my daughter and son-in-law discovered San Carlos, fell in love with the area, and moved here from Alberta. My younger daughter, her then boyfriend (now husband) and I were invited to share Christmas here in San Carlos with them. I fell in love with San Carlos too and have been returning for longer and longer visits every year since.

My background has been in sales for most of my career. I was a Sale Manager for Avon Products in Edmonton, Alberta and won many sales awards before being transferred into the Canadian Head Office of Avon Products in Montreal, Quebec and assigned a position as a Category Manager for various product lines carried by they Company. After a transfer to their Head Office in New Year City which I declined, I opened my own business, a flower shop. We grew to three locations in the West Island of Montreal before deciding to move out of Quebec to Ontario. Settling in a small town was a new adventure, buying a farm, having horses, steers, pigs, chickens, goats as well as the usual dogs and cats. A great setting to bring up my two daughters!!

I sold the business and retired only to find I was bored. So I launched a new career becoming a Real Estate Agent licensed for the Province of Ontario. Now that I spend so much time here in San Carlos, I have joined Re/Max First Choice Realty as a Real Estate Agent. I am now licensed here in the Province of Sonora, Mexico and enjoy meeting Canadians and Americans who also fall in love with this little piece of Paradise called San Carlos and want a little piece to call their own!
